Plant Nurseries

The unit of Nursery has a role of producing enough quantity and of high quality seedlings of various crops and tree plants, as well as to trains farmers engaged in nursery activities.

The seedlings produced are sold at subsidized price to the farmers and some are planted in government farms. The Department utilizes some of the seedlings for planting them in the plantation farms and sub-stations.

The unit has eleven nurseries located in different areas. This set up by the Department and subsequently distributed according to the resources available, ecological and demand of the seedlings.

The nurseries produce wide range of seedlings every year according to the mile stones that have been set up. The seedlings are categorized in to forest plants species, fruit medicinal plants ornamental purposes, and spices.

Forest plants

(eg) Casuarina, Acacia, Teak, Eucalyptus, Terminalia.

Spices plants

(eg) Cloves, Cinamon, Vanila, Cardamon, Chillies and Black Pepper.

Fruit trees

Orange, lemon, Lime, Tangerine, Mango, Jack fruit, Durian, Papalya, passion fruit, Guava, Rambutum.

Medicinal plants

Neem, Arovera.

Ornamental

Palm, Cassia Fistula.
